Hurricane Maria Status Reports
Hello fellow timeshare owners.
As you know by now a sequence of unfortunate events have hurt the Virgin Islands. As a result our timeshare/hotel is currently closed. As we work to restore service to the property we will track our challenges and progress in resolving the issues. Periodically we will post status reports here. I will be as transparent as I can with what information I have, but ask that we keep these reports amongst us timeshare owners. Our property depends on tourist/hotel income. These transient customers can easily choose to stay at other destinations that were not affected by hurricanes. This potential loss of revenue hurts our timeshare property, our staff, and the island recovery. That being said, I offer you three status reports which gets you current as of this week. The oldest copy has pictures of the property the day after the hurricane. Please know that significant cleanup to the property has already been completed since the pictures were taken. Our biggest issue at this time is power and water. I received a call from the Water and Power Authority (WAPA) today. They stated they may be able to get to us in 2 – 3 weeks. The board and onsite manager have already initiated contact with various levels of government and first responder organizations to prioritize us higher in the WAPA restoration process. Our property could then be rented by various recovery organizations. In the meantime the team at the hotel will continue with property restoration.
Thank you for your patience and support.
Brian

Any updates on power and water for HOTC?
Unfortunately we are still without power and water. I checked in with WAPA on Thursday. They claim they are on track for 1 to 2 more weeks. Latest report is only 15-20 percent of the main island has power. The hotel is on feeder 1A which has power however four utility poles that bring the power to the shore where our cable connects have been broken and need replacement.
Thanks, Brian. Your updates are appreciated.
Hi Brian and everyone,
We’ve been following power restoration closely as we’re scheduled to check in on the day after Thanksgiving. Looking at the WAPA updates on their website, it appears that electricity may have been restored to HOTC. Do we now have power and water?
Thanks for any update and thanks to Tommy and the entire team for their hard work during a difficult time!
David
Hi Brian, I have been advised that since Mitch left there is an opening on the Board and would like to be considered. Also when will the minutes be published from the meeting today? We banked our 2017 weeks for next year considering we should be there now and want to set a date for next year, 2018.
Thank you
Christine Foss
Hello David,
Some progress has been made regarding power but we are still in the dark. WAPA replaced the utility pole that we feed from. Our electrician put a new kit on which takes the underground cable up the side of the utility pole and ties into WAPA’s wiring. Unfortunately there is a break in the line somewhere upstream from us. I spoke with WAPA today and they hope to have that resolved in the next couple days.
Thank you for volunteering Christine. I forwarded your interest to the rest of the board at our previous meeting. I believe it was Mitch who told me you were expressed interest in the past. We are in the process of gathering who all is interested.
The meeting minutes are always reviewed for approval at the following meeting. Tonight’s meeting will likely release the previous meeting notes from the October 5th meeting.
Is there power and when do you expect the hhotel to be ready for guests?
Thanks so much for the updates here and on Facebook. Please thank everyone working to bring Hotel on the Cay back to life.
When do you anticipate that HOTC will re-open. We and many timeshare owners have flight reservations!
Thanks.
Hello, any update on the hotel? Is it open? How are repairs coming?
Thanks.
David
Hi Brian –
This is Mark Rosetta. We are scheduled for weeks 01 and 02. Any guess yet on whether or not we’ll be able to use them?
Any more word on when power might be restored?
And thanks to everyone doing what they can to restore the facility.
Good news Mark,
Power has been restored and we are looking to open next week. You should be able to use weeks 1 and 2. We hope to have the regular guest services (internet, TV, pool) restored much before then.
Hi Brian –
Thank you for your response. We’re looking forward to our two weeks at the hotel.
We especially want to extend our thanks to all those working to restore the hotel and its services.
– Mark
