I just talked to Dave down at the Hotel. If you haven’t looked at the NOAA map yet, Irene passed almost directly over the Hotel – right across the Christiansted harbor. Luckily, it wasn’t much of a hurricane at that point, having only about 60MPH winds. There are some tree limbs knocked down, and we lost power for 12 hours or so – the hot water went out – and there was a flagpole knocked down. Other than that, no damage. Dave is pretty much flying solo as there have been some staff no-shows and Tommy is on vacation. HOTC IV is coming back from the marina any minute. The internet is up, but the wireless is not. The phones are working (obviously) but I guess the cell service has been out. Dave says everything is under control and not to worry. He says there were a couple of guests who checked out early – guess they thought they were going to get different electricity somewhere else on the island…???
